Indole-3-methanol

Short Description:

Indole-3-methanol is a new secondary plant metabolite produced in cruciferous vegetables, which can be extracted from cruciferous vegetables (such as broccoli, radish and cauliflower). Indole-3-carbinol is a tumor chemopreventive substance. Indole-3-carbinol can inhibit the occurrence and development of a variety of tumors. Indole-3-methanol was used to encapsulate poly lactic acid co glycolic acid (PLGA) to study its anticancer effect on breast adenocarcinoma epithelial cells (MCF7), colon adenocarcinoma epithelial cells (Caco2) and prostate cancer epithelial cells (PC3) in vitro. It is also used as an inducer of cytochrome P4501A (CYP1A).

Description

Indole-3-methanol (I3C) activates aromatic hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) and induces G1 cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Therefore, it is a potential anticancer agent. In addition, it induces estradiol metabolism by stimulating cytochrome P450 enzyme. Therefore, I3C is considered to be an effective chemotherapy drug for various types of cancer, including breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer and leukemia. Indole-3-methanol can only induce the apoptosis of cancer cells, which is safe and non cytotoxic to non tumor cells. Because of its high efficiency, non-toxic and natural anti-tumor properties, indole-3-methanol can be used as one of the candidates for cancer prevention and treatment drugs.
