4-Hydroxybenzophenone, also known as p-benzoylphenol and p-hydroxybenzophenone, is a white crystalline powder chemical with molecular formula C13H10O2 and molecular weight 198, which can be obtained by heating and rearranging benzoic acid phenyl ester. It is generally used in organic synthesis and is an intermediate of the anti-infertility drug exoclomiphene. It is irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin, avoid contact with skin and eyes.
Nature and Stability:
No decomposition if used and stored according to specifications, no known hazardous reactions, avoid oxides
Storage Methods:
Keep receptacles sealed, store in a cool, dry place, and ensure good ventilation or exhaust in the workroom
Synthesis Methods:
Heat benzoic acid phenyl ester to 70 ℃ melt, stirring quickly into anhydrous aluminum trichloride, the reaction escape hydrogen chloride, and self-heating, the reaction at 130 ℃ for 15 min. cooling, add dilute hydrochloric acid. Filter and wash with water to neutral. The filter cake was recrystallized with benzene to give 4-hydroxydiphenyl ketone in 62% yield.
Description of uses:
Used in organic synthesis, pharmaceutical intermediates and anti-UV.
Ecological data:
Slightly hazardous to water Do not allow undiluted or large quantities of product to come into contact with groundwater, waterways or sewage systems, and do not discharge materials into the surrounding environment without government permission.
